Right now, we find ourselves at a critical moment. We can no longer pretend that damaging behavior towards the planet advances human health and development – in fact, the opposite is true. But it’s hard to imagine a world without plastic. There’s hardly a way around it: we eat, drink, and breathe microplastics, nano-plastics and their additives – and their harmful chemical additives – every. single. day.
First Plastic Health Symposium
On the 2nd of May 2023, in the hart of our European democracy, the Plastic Health Symposium took place. A group of world-leading experts, scientists, lawyers, industry and NGO’s talked about system change, accountability and safe chemistry. The outcome of this meeting in the European Parliament will be published in a White Paper, to influence legislation, laws, and manufacturers.
Open Letter Signed by 25 MEPS
The same day we published this
Open Letter to Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans, signed by 25 Members of European Parliament (!) saying that there is evidence enough that plastics are toxic materials threatening our health, asking the EC to act now. Asking to put an end to ‘Plasticene’ and protect the health of EU citizens.
White Paper
The Plastic Health Symposium highlighted that there was consensus in the room about the scale of the problem we face and the urgency to act now. Industry needs access to solutions to drive forward this change and through cross-sector alliances, this is possible. This will be at the heart of our White Paper, to be published very soon!
